Jeff good to hear form you and glad to have your input. As an ol' time marketer there is adage that applies here which is, "There is an ass for every saddle." The trick is you need to find enough people to ride with you once they mount. I visited your fall foliage site and other galleries and I see several issues. One, is that while these are well crafted images (and so are your others) you are delivering a product that is in the main wheel house of your competitors. There are a ton of fall foliage purchase and capture opportunities. Your point of view needs a deeper thematic and stronger point of view. Within all of your galleries I can see what you feel but in some of your images there is a significant connection to your emotional range while in others, we have well crafted Kodak moments and so do many other photographers.

First step deliver on the emotive range as well as the great color. I can see that you have that ability and it does come through in a number of images from various galleries. People do not follow photographs, they follow photographers who are delivering what they feel but cannot see.

Second, you are in a tourist destination and a great opportunity to market finished decor art in frames. If I was living there I would have a small gallery with framed art and brutally edit what you sell (your web site offers too much at this point) and then tie that gallery back to your site. One of the best examples is David Brookover in Jackson Hole, WY. See http://www.brookovergallery.com/. In my view you can achieve this level of work.

So, in summary you are dong many things right with your blog and outreach. You need to accept the seasonally and sell more during season then out, and I think the rest is a matter for editing and capture refinement. Compare your great work to other works of similar fall foliage and then step back and consider how you may take me, the viewer to a deeper appreciation of this wonderful area of the country.

Do I believe you can do it? Absolutely and that is why I'm replying. Stay in touch via e-mail and I will give you a hand if I can.

Stay with it....

Hi Bob, I have good months and bad but unfortunately my bad (no sales months) far outweigh my good ones. I'm trying to identify who my audience for buying art work is and how to market to them.
I have several passions in photography with #1 being my fall foliage photography and #2 being my seascapes (I live in Salem MA). I started a fall foliage blog/website to talk to people trying to find peak fall foliage in New England. (I was Yankee Magazine's 1st fall blogger, so I already had an audience). This niche brought in 52,000 views the first autumn. and I hope to grow it larger this fall.
The problem is this is a very small niche with only 3-4 months of good numbers. Do you see anything that I could be doing to round out my year?
I do have another blog "Traveling Scenic New England" where I talk photography, locations, techniques and software.
I'd love to hear more from your perspective.

Dear Bob
Thank you very much, your vision and commitment opens a new avenue to find the better direction toward our work. I am sure your training system will help many many students to understand their work better and how to improve it.
